Local Media
Salt Lake City enjoys a spirited media scene, with two daily newspapers, a host of alternative publications, numerous radio stations, and the usual TV affiliates including Fox, NBC, CBS, and ABC. The various neighborhood communities in the Salt Lake Valley, such as Murray, Sandy, and Midvale, all have weekly papers as well. The local media compete intensely, especially among the evening television news programs and the tow daily newspapers, the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret Morning News.
Salt Lakers are community minded, so they use all the media to stay informed and discuss issues of the day. The letters to the editor sections in both daily newspapers are avidly followed by community leaders and the general populace alike, and talk radio acts as a community forum where grievances are aired and controversies are debated.
In addition to Salt Lake City’s two daily papers, Salt Lakers rely on the weekly publication City Weekly for in-depth coverage of local hot topics and nightlife listings, and the Catalyst, published monthly, for its conscience raising articles and excellent community resources.
