Health Care
Based on our healthy lifestyle, access to quality health care, and statistical data on disabilities, disease, and mortality, Utah is one of the healthiest states in the nation, according to the United Health Foundation.
Major medical facilities in the Salt Lake County provide short-term acute and intensive care, alcohol and chemical dependent and psychiatric care, long-term care, rehabilitation facilities, and special centers such as our Intermountain Burn Unit and hospice facilities. Area hospitals have urgent-care facilities either separate from or operating with the hospital on the same property, and all area hospitals have physician-referral services. The University of Utah Medical Center and the University of Utah School of Medicine not only provide patient care but also operate as a teaching hospital with extensive involvement in medical research. The area's Intermountain Health Care, a charitable, community-owned nonprofit organization based in Salt Lake City that operates four local hospitals in the Valley, has been the recipient of the National Quality Health Care Award, and its Primary Children's Medical Center has been singled out as one of the top children's hospitals in the nation.
The growth of the Salt Lake County ensures that we will continue to be a center for research and high-quality health care, providing a wide selection of lower-cost care options and a continuing contribution to the future of the nation's health care industry.
No matter where you are in the city and no matter what your preference for treatment, health care is close at hand. Who knows, maybe our healthy lifestyle will rub off on you, but it's always good to know these facilities are here if you need them.
